Dr. Jenn Shaw of Integrative Biology and Dr. Erika Lutter of Microbiology and Moleular Genetics have been awarded an NIH R15 AREA grant for $429,034. The grant will support research to investigate the role of a specific Chlamydial protein in manipulating the host response to infection. The work will test a strain of Chlamydia trachomatis (that has been designed to express a genetically altered version of this Chlamydial protein) in a laboratory mouse model of genital infection. C. trachomatis is the most commonly reported bacterial infection in the United States and can lead to severe medical complications in women. The research aims to fill critical knowledge gaps regarding Chlamydia pathogenesis. Congratulations Drs. Shaw and Lutter!
