32 Freshmen Selected to Participate in the Research Scholars Program

 

 

Thirty-two freshmen were chosen as Life Sciences Freshmen Research Scholars (LSFRS). The Scholars program is a newly-funded initiative by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to engage freshmen in research during their first year at OSU. LSFRS is overseen by faculty in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, BOtany, Chemistry, Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, and Zoology.  Congrats Freshmen Scholars!  You can learn more about the inaugural cohort of scholars here and the program here.

Seniors of Significance

 

 

Four Seniors from the Department of Integrative Biology were selected as Oklahoma State Seniors of Significance. Congratulations to Lauren Foley (Major: Zoology and Biological Sciences), Brandon Hubbard (Major:Physiology and Pyschology), Clara Telford (Major: Physiology), and Leah Underwood (Major: Physiology). The award recognizes students who excelled in scholarship, leadership, and service to campus and community.  You can learn more here.

Undergraduate Research Symposium

 

 

Mark your calendar!  The Fall Undergraduate Research Symposium is December 5, 2014 from 1:30-3:30pm in the Lobby of Life Sciences West.  Each Spring and Fall undergraduates present the results of the research they have been working during the semester. See attached flyer.

Grad Students Recieve Toxicology Fellowships

The Oklahoma State University Interdisciplinary Toxicology Program  awarded its first graduate fellowships to five doctoral students, four of whom belong to the Department of Integrative Biology.  Each award recipient will receive an annual stipend of $2,500 for research projects in toxicology, the study of the adverse effects of chemicals on living organisms. Congratulations to graduate students Adam Simpson, Shane Morrison, Patrick Cusaac, and Chris Goodchild, and their faculty mentors Jason Belden, Scott McMurry, and Sarah DuRant.

Morrison Recognized at National Diversity Conference

Shane Morrison was honored for his outstanding oral presentation at the recent national conference for the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science in Los Angeles.  Congratulations Shane!  You can read more about his accomplishments here.

Zoology Changes Name to Integrative Biology

 

The Department of Zoology is undergoing a name change.  We are now officially the Department of Integrative Biology which houses the Biology, Zoology, and Physiology undergraduate majors and a graduate program in Integrative Biology.  Integrative Biol Logo   

Zoology Grad Student Recieves Phi Kappa Phi Award

Shaun McCoshum recived a Love of Learning Award of $500 from Phi Kappa Phi, one of the nations oldest honor socieites. The Love of Learning Awards program begain in 2007 and helps fund graduate and professional studies. You can read more about the award here.  Congratulations Shaun!
