W. Frank Blair Eminent Naturalist Award to Tony and Alice Echelle

echellesTony and Alice Echelle were recognized recently in Tyler, Texas, at the annual banquet of the Southwestern Association of Naturalists as joint winners of the W. Frank Blair Eminent Naturalist Award.  This award is given for “excellence in a lifetime of commitment to outstanding study or conservation of the flora or fauna of the southwestern United States, Mexico, and Central America".  Over their career, the Echelles have authored well over 100 articles, book chapters, symposium volumes, and books. Furthermore, they designed recovery plans for some six endangered fish species of the desert southwestern US and Mexico, plus served on various governmental review panels and committees dealing with conservation of fish species of SWAN’s geographical region.
