Dr. Stanley Fox, OSU Regents Professor of Zoology, was selected to receive the Donald W. Tinkle Research Excellence Award from the Southwestern Association of Naturalists (SWAN) at the 2012 meetings last week at ANUIES, Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México, in Valle de Bravo, Mexico. The Tinkle Research Excellence Award is presented to an individual who, in the past 10 years, has made a significant contribution to the knowledge and understanding of the biota of the southwestern United States, Mexico, and Central America through scientific articles and books. The significance of these written works and their quality and quantity are factors in the selection of a recipient of this award. This is the first time the award has been given since 2009. It is named in honor of Dr. Donald W. Tinkle, a prominent herpetologist, ecologist, and evolutionary biologist at the University of Michigan who was also a long time member of SWAN. Tinkle was a pioneer in developing life history theory and served as Curator in the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology.
